Isn’t the world of Information Technology amazing ?? Almost like nature ! Many, many moons ago, when I was still an aspiring system designer and programmer, working with IBM mainframes of the 4100 range. And we had some of the first 3380 disks in the country. From a wikipedia: “….1980 – The world’s first gigabyte-capacity disk drive, the IBM 3380, was the size of a refrigerator, weighed 550 pounds (about 250 kg), and had a price tag of $40,000……”.
I remember those well, we got 6 of them !!!!
That was astounding at the time, oh, early eighties. But what I am referring to NOW is the fact that I just paid 169 Euros for a little hard disk, the size of a brick, and holding 1 Terabyte of data, all on its little own…….
…… and after 35+ years in IT I just KNOW it will be FULL again in no time !!
Oh, and with all our combined smarts, gadgets and wisdom we still are totally and fully unable to live in peace with each other. Don’t know which is the most amazing……..
